Measuring Knowledge Spillovers in Manufacturing and Services: An Empirical Assessment of Alternative Approaches
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper it is tested which of the various alternative approaches for constructing knowledge spillover pools suggested in existing literature measures the extent to which a rm can costlessly receive external knowledge best. Since knowledge spillovers are unmeasurable, a `goodness of t' measure is constructed using innovation survey data. It turns out that measures of the uncentered correlation of rm characteristics seem to t actual knowledge spillovers best. Direct measures constructed from innovation survey data appear to work reasonably well while measures of the Euclidean technological distance and of the geographical distance lead to counterintuitive results. Empirical evidence is provided for both the German service sector and the manufacturing sector.

DEVELOPMENT OF PRODUCTIVITY MEASUREMENT AND ANALYSIS FRAMEWORK FOR MANUFACTURING COMPANIES
The purpose of this research is to present an alternative approach for measuring productivity in manufacturing companies. To achieve the research objective, an in depth investigation on the existing productivity measurement and analysis practices of a case manufacturing company has been carried out through both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The investigation result has shown that the...
متن کاملThe Effect of Self-Assessment and Conference on EFL Students’ Production of Speech Acts and Politeness Markers: Alternatives on the Horizon?
Alternative assessment approaches received considerable attention soon after a discontent with traditional, one-shot testing. These approaches, however, have been used only to improve learners’ linguistic ability despite communicative models of language which pointed that knowledge of language also involves pragmatic ability (Bachman, 1990; Bachman & Palmer, 1996). The present study tries to ex...

This study examines the dynamic relationship between foreign direct investment (FDI) and total factor productivity having controlled for other channels of external openness: exports and imports in four ASEAN countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. We employ the panel data analysis PDA (fixed effect and dynamic panel models) as well as the panel cointegration and Granger causali...
متن کاملKnowledge discovery from patients’ behavior via clustering-classification algorithms based on weighted eRFM and CLV model: An empirical study in public health care services
The rapid growing of information technology (IT) motivates and makes competitive advantages in health care industry. Nowadays, many hospitals try to build a successful customer relationship management (CRM) to recognize target and potential patients, increase patient loyalty and satisfaction and finally maximize their profitability. Many hospitals have large data warehouses containing customer ...
متن کاملTechnology sourcing: an empirical analysis using firm-level patent data∗
This paper examines whether UK firms that locate their R&D activity in the USA benefit more than other UK firms from knowledge spillovers originating from US R&D. Patent data provides a firm-level measure of the location of innovative activity, which enables the identification of knowledge spillovers associated with "technology sourcing". Our identification strategy helps to address various pro...
